About Our Team
We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and quality of over 450 miles of road within the 522 sq. miles that is Morgan County. Our team works tirelessly to maintain the infrastructure that connects our community. Every decision we make is with the well-being of our residents in mind.
The department has 16 full time employees and 4 seasonal employees, during mowing season. We use over 140 pieces of equipment to maintain a combination of asphalt, tar & chip, and gravel roads in an effort to keep the roads safe and in good repair for all drivers. We also maintain almost 90 bridges that are state inspected every two years and almost one and a half times that many low water crossings that do not meet the criteria for inspection.
Duties of Morgan County Highway Department include but are not limited to:
Surface repair of all county roads
Patch potholes
Shoulder mowing
Cleaning ditch lines
Maintain cross-drains
Installation & maintenance of driveway culverts
Installation of road signs
Bridge Maintenance
Removal of trees in or near county roadways
Road striping
Guardrail maintenance
Removes storm debris from roads and right-of-way
This is just a short list of the work duties that we do here at the Morgan County Highway Department. We also coordinate with all other department and entities within the county on different needs and projects.
